WESTBURY Rotary Club has expressed its delight with this year’s Imber Ultramarathon and the fundraising success behind it.
The race took part at the beginning of this month and saw 111 people run 33 miles along the Imber Range perimeter path.
Sponsorship and donations from the racers have raised an estimated £2,800 for the Rotary Club, who will distribute it to local charity Crosspoint, and Wheelpower, an organisation dedicated to helping disabled people live active lifestyles.
Westbury Rotary president Cavan Algar said, “The event went very, very well! We had Rotarians manning all five of the checkpoints, and everybody had a great day and are looking forward to next year.
“I chose to donate half of the money to Crosspoint here in Westbury because it’s sad that we live in an age when people are living without food. There are also people who live on their own and go for days without speaking to anyone.
“The work Crosspoint does with their food banks and supporting vulnerable people is an incredibly worthwhile cause.
“Fundraising is always on the Rotary Club’s agenda; we raised £800 from an international cuisine night last year, and had previously helped to fund the building of a hospital in Nepal.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part in or helped organise the Imber Ultramarathon; it was an enjoyable day for everyone and the Rotary Club hope to continue supporting the event in its promising future.”
The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at the Chalford House Hotel, and welcomes new members and visitors. To find out more about the club, contact Sue Ezra on ezrasusan3@gmail.com
