Upton Scudamore’s new village choir held its inaugural concert at the church of St Mary the Virgin in July.
The group was formed in January of this year under the leadership of Claire Tanner and the inspired guidance of church organist Bob Clitheroe.
There are currently 11 members of the choir who practise every week and they regularly sing in the church at services held on the first Sunday of every month.
Villager Ken Welch said, “For this special event, which was to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday, the church was decorated with red white and blue bunting and balloons, and a large screen displayed the lyrics which allowed the audience to join in which they did with great enthusiasm.
“The 80 tickets for the concert were quickly sold out and, playing to a house filled to capacity, the choir gave a polished performance combining nostalgia and popular music culminating in a resounding finale of ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ with the audience patriotically singing and waving flags reminiscent of the Last Night of the Proms.
“The concert was a great success and raised over £500 for church funds.”
