WITH less than two weeks to go until tackling Everest, the Nick Jones Foundation climb team took to the streets to walk 15 miles from Warminster to Trowbridge, whilst collecting donations along the way.
Nick Jones, alongside climb team members Julian Lippiet, Stu Costello, Sean Mitchell and Alec Balchin, as well as friends and family, walked the 15 miles on Saturday 29th September, passing through Westbury.
Nick has experienced heart problems since 2012 after a small stroke. He was later diagnosed with malignant hypertension, which attacks the heart and internal organs. He is now being supported by the Dorothy House team for end-of-life planning.
He has set up a foundation in his name, ‘The Nick Jones Foundation for Bereaved Children’ to ensure that his children and other young people have the guidance and support they need when dealing with the loss of parents, family members and friends.
During the walk, they collected donations from passers-by, and cars stopped on busy roads, with people wanting to support the cause. Extra collections were being made by Boots in Warminster, and Parsons Bakery in Westbury offered the walkers free hot drinks during their half-way mark.
They were also joined by new mascot, Bingo the Bear, who attracted a lot of attention handing out sweets to children, even sparing enough energy to take a visit to Trowbridge Park after the walk for a play on the slides.
As well as raising money, the aim of the walk was to raise awareness of the foundation, and to provided extra training for the climb team. Altogether, the team raised £116 which will go towards helping children face bereavement.
