ORGANISERS of Westbury Festival have announced that this year’s event will not be going ahead.
With news that there has been a rise in the infection rate of Covid-19 in England, organisers have said that it would be ‘irresponsible’ of them to go ahead with the festival.
The main festival fortnight was scheduled for 25th September to 10th October.
Chair of the Westbury Festival committee, Ian Cunningham, told White Horse News, “It is very disappointing. We have a lot of older visitors that come to the festival, who might be considered ‘high risk’ and we didn’t want to encourage them to do something that could be ‘risky’.
“We are concerned that incidents of Covid-19 appears to be going up – making us nervous of inviting people to events. If incidents were lower and heading in the right direction, we might have gone ahead. But as it stands,it would be irresponsible of us to go ahead with the event.
“Unfortunately we did also have an idea for a smaller event at the end of the month, but again we are not convinced that conditions are safe enough to go ahead.”
“We do have some ideas for ‘socially distanced’ things that people can get involved in – but more information will be available in the White Horse News in the coming weeks.”
