The group of children from Ozarichi, Belarus continue to have a great time here in Wiltshire with their hosts, Westbury charity, Chernobyl Children in Need.
Chernobyl Children in Need (CCIN) was formed in 1999 to help to alleviate children’s suffering in areas of Belarus still affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster.
The group reports, During this week the group staying in Westbury were guests at Sainsbury’s where they were very generously treated to supper and a gift voucher each. They visited Longleat Safari Park as the guests of Lord Bath, had a day at Center Parcs, followed by a lovely time at The Weymouth Arms in Warminster enjoying the food and soft drinks and having their picture taken with one of the chefs, Brian.
“The children also visited Haine & Smith opticians in Westbury and Chantry Dental Surgery in Warminster to have their eyes and teeth checked as there is evidence that higher than normal background radiation can cause short sightedness and can damage the teeth enamel.”
Theresa Walker from CCIN said, “Although their eyes were OK the teeth unfortunately were not so, and two boys, Ivan and Ilya needed treatment.
“CCIN is very grateful to these businesses for their continued help.”
Anyone wishing to know more about the group and their work, please contact Theresa Walker on 01373 858584.
CCIN raises money to fund projects to advance the welfare of children still affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster. The charity funds innovative projects using donated resources from companies and individuals within the UK. These projects are for schools, hospitals and orphanages in the surrounding area that could not otherwise take place.
