The end of the year provides a perfect opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful learning and exciting events that have happened at Westbury Infant School.
Nicky Newbury, deputy headteacher said, “The children have all experienced some fantastic visits and visitors across the past three months.”
“The school has four planned trips across the year and in the autumn term have already been to two of them. Our reception classes visited the Victoria Art gallery in Bath where they dressed up as characters from the paintings, and travelled to Stourhead where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery and gardens. The year 1 classes have travelled to Warminster Park on a train (the first train journey for many) where they were park keepers for the day. They have also visited ‘We The Curious’ in Bristol for their very hands on experience about space! Our year 2 children have been to the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford as part of their transport topic, and dressed up as Victorians for their amazing role play day at Sevington School.
“The school has welcomed many visitors to further enhance the children’s learning, as well as visiting the local library and attending the music festival lunchtime concerts. Children have also participated in a multi-skills event hosted by Matravers School where year 2 children practised and improved a range of ball and control skills.
“We are very lucky to have such an active school council who have been busy raising funds with cake sales and selling hot chocolate to name a few. They are becoming quite effective entrepreneurs.
“Our school has ran many teacher-led clubs this past term, such as French, sports, mindfulness, computing, library, construction and craft clubs. Every child is learning to play the ocarina and they play in an assembly on Tuesdays. Lots of children are taking them outside to practise during break and lunch times. Our breakfast and after school club is becoming more popular and the children enjoyed the many activities that are planned, as well as a scrummy snack.
“In December, we were very busy practising for our Christmas performances which are always well attended. We also made crafts to sell at our Christmas markets. The children have especially enjoyed being creative and having the time to demonstrate a flair for design.
“I am sure that the new year will provide more exciting learning opportunities and experiences for our children across the curriculum and we look forward to continue on our learning journey at Westbury Infant school.”
