Westbury Infant School Year 2 pupils have been busy raising funds for needy children.
Headteacher, Jan Ball, explained what the children have been doing. She said, “The community helps us help others. Year 2 pupils have been learning about the work of The Children’s Society charity who support disadvantaged children all over the UK.
“They made Christingles as part of this work and then raised money for the charities ‘Safe at Christmas’ appeal supporting runaway children.
“Each child took home a tube of smarties and then volunteered to do jobs at home to earn money to fill their smarties tube. This was made possible by others generosity.
“The charity supplied the candles and ribbon for the Christingles, the local business One Stop gave an orange for each child and Tesco gave a smartie tube for each child.
“The children worked hard raising money by washing up, tidying, hoovering and many other helpful chores. They have managed to raise a massive £186.20 for The Children’s Society. Very many thanks to those who made this possible.”
