WESTBURY Ladies RFC have made history by storming to victory to win the South West North Two league for the first time in the club’s history.
The team travelled to Gordano on Sunday 19th March for their last game of the season, knowing that a win would see them crowned as champions. And the team finished the season in style, thrashing Gordano 56-7 to keep their impressive undefeated record.
Coach, Jack Bates, praised the team on their determination and fantastic team spirit. “It was a very joyous day with a culmination of seven years’ hard work coming to a head,” Jack said.
“With the support of the whole of the club the ladies have been able to achieve a great feat.
“The whole squad has been fantastic all season, committing to training and playing. The team spirit within the squad is fantastic and everyone plays for each other. This is all led by our fantastic captain, Anna Hemingway, who sets high levels of performance week in week out.
“It’s a massive achievement to not only win a league but also to go undefeated, but no more than the ladies deserve. Our support has also been fantastic, with many supporters travelling long distances every week to cheer the ladies on, we all appreciate it.
“The progression of the ladies in the last few years has been vast, but it’s all down to the hard work they put in every Wednesday on the training pitch.”
The ladies are determined to continue to build on the success, with several new players joining again this year. If anyone is interested in joining please email westburyladiesrfc@hotmail.com.
Westbury Ladies Rugby Club are now preparing for a development game at home this Sunday, 2nd April.
