WESTBURY Lions Club’s annual 10km race was a great success with runners from all over the area taking part.
The run, on Sunday 11th October, attracted 124 runners and raised over £1,450 for local good causes.
Westbury Lion Nigel Coward said, “We had another superb 10k run with 124 competitors turning up to support us in what was a generally busy day in the running calendar, with several other events in the area to choose from. The weather was ideal and the course was in good order on the day.
“The event raised over £1,450 to be used towards local causes, and we are especially pleased as so many competitors reported that they thoroughly enjoyed their day with us.
“We must thank the event sponsors, SPC UK, who provided the beautiful winners’ trophies, and the White Horse Country Park who always support our Lions events so willingly. Also big thanks are due to those who volunteered and assisted us on the day, including Andrew Hoddinott of Avon Valley Runners for providing and overseeing the race timing and our wonderful Leos for manning the water stations on the course and handing out the medals at the finish.
“Plans are already in place for next year’s event, which will be a little more special as it will be the fifth 10k run for us. Who knows, maybe we could persuade our next Lion President to run the event?”
The race was won by Paul Ryman from Frome Running Club, who finished in 34:41 minutes, and the first woman to cross the line was Anna Cottle from Avon Valley Runners who finished in 44:18 minutes. The full list of results and more pictures can be seen at www.westburylions.org.uk
