A WESTBURY man’s mission to raise funds for Bath’s neonatal intensive care unit is nearing completion, after a meeting with singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin.
Leander Morales has been on a journey to have an acoustic guitar signed by some of the world’s top artists with a view to auctioning the guitar this summer. Signatures include those from Coldplay, Peter Gabriel, Nicholas Cage, Brian May and over 40 other artists.
More recently, Leander and his daughter Alana were invited to meet with rising star Gabrielle Aplin, whose signature will be the final one on the guitar.
Alana was born nine weeks’ premature in 2004 and Leander’s fundraising mission then, which saw him trekking 117 miles to London with a group of friends, raised £6,500 towards Bath’s newly refurbished NICU. However, it didn’t stop there, and Leander hopes now to raise much more for the unit from the guitar.
Leander said, “This has been an epic journey, inspired by Alana’s survival, plus the nurses and doctors who saved her life. I hope we can raise enough money to allow another deprived NICU to kick-start a campaign somewhere in the UK as well as continuing to support the amazing local facilities in Bath.”
Although there is yet to be a date set on when the auction will take place, Leander is in the process of building a website and will be launching the full story and auction soon.
