WESTBURY Parent Carer Group has received a cheque for £270 from the BA13+ Partnership, to help with their running costs.
The community group, which was founded in 2013, is a support group run by and for full-time parent carers of children with additional needs.
They meet regularly in Westbury to share tips and information about the difficulties of caring for children with additional needs. Star Painter, a member of the group, said, “We all support each other because everyone’s in the same position. We don’t get a time-out from what we do, so it’s a great place to let off steam.”
This was the first time the group had applied for funding, and it will be spent on a recreational trip to the White Horse Pottery, and on a visiting behavioural specialist. The session will help the parents explore neuro-linguistic programming, and the importance of body language and non-verbal communication in caring for their children.
The group are always on the lookout for new parents to join; Star said, “We’re getting new members all the time but there are still a lot of people we don’t reach.”
During term time the group meets on the last Wednesday of every month at Crosspoint, and at the Mad Hatters café two weeks after that from 9.30am until 11.30am. To get in contact with them, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ faithcarenshare or email Star at startorrie@ live.co.uk.
The cheque was presented by Carole King and Phil McMullen from the BA13+ Partnership, an organisation dedicated to tailoring services in the Westbury area to the needs of the community.
Carole said, “It’s great to support local organisations and especially a carers group because they work so hard.”
