IT’S time to dust off your red, white and blue bunting as next week, communities across the town and surrounding villages will be celebrating a historic moment in British history, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!
Across the four-day bank holiday weekend, from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June, a whole host of events have been planned to celebrate the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II – the first British monarch to reach this milestone. Events include a children’s street party organised by Westbury Town Council, a beacon lighting at the White Horse, a special celebration service at All Saints’ Church, family fun days at The View, and celebrations at the Conservative Club and Leigh Park Community Centre.
Sarah Harris, communications officer for Westbury Town Council said, “Westbury Town Council are looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2nd June. At 2pm, in the High Street, the town council are hosting a children’s street party, 50s’ style to include afternoon tea, music, entertainment, and games. Later that day, at 9.45pm, the town council will join dignitaries and members of the public for the Beacon lighting at the White Horse. More than 1,500 Beacons will be lit at the same time across the UK, Channel Islands and UK Overseas territories.
“We look forward to seeing you all on the day!”
