Calling all Westbury residents, clubs, groups, schools and organisations, online registration is now open for the ‘Road to Rio’ challenge.
As part of Wiltshire Council’s Big Pledge, in the build up to the Rio Olympic Games people are being encouraged to take part in this free, fun activity, and once you register you’ll get a free pedometer too.
From 4th June – 29th July, people of all ages are being encouraged to get more active with the Road to Rio challenge.
Entries can be as either an individual or a team and participants can log swimming, cycling, walking or running distances on the online database.
Whether you decide to take part as an individual or as part of a team you may wish to use the Big Pledge as an opportunity to raise money for a local charity or cause. This can help give you the extra motivation and support you need to help reach your goal.
The Westbury community area will be competing against the other 17 community areas in Wiltshire. Westbury Community Engagement Manager, Liam Cripps said, “ I’m confident that we can do the town and villages proud by punching well above our weight and really have a go at winning.
“I am sure that in amongst the local sports clubs that the Westbury community area has there are teams with potential to win the Road to Rio outright. But it isn’t all about competition and there is an important message, particularly for younger people, about being more active and ensuring that we all exercise regularly. So you can really make a difference to your health and wellbeing by signing up to one of this year’s sporting challenges.”
