WESTBURY Town Council has recently finished installing new town maps.
The previous maps had been in place for three years so it was decided that some would be repaired and all maps would now include photos to show places of interest to encourage visitors to explore the town.
Town clerk Keith Harvey said, “We had several maps in the town replaced, including the largest map outside the library. This map in particular needed repairing. When we were doing this we noticed there was a huge ‘W’ in the framework so what we decided to do was highlight the ‘W’ by painting it blue. It now looks very impressive.”
Cllr Ian Cunningham said, “If you’re visiting Westbury and you stop in one of our car parks you might not have been too impressed with what you saw, so we wanted people to look at the pictures on the map and see that Westbury has quite a fascinating, medieval heart in the town and all you have to do is go and find it.
“Many of the locations are on our new blue plaque trail which will be coming to the town very soon.”
Maps are located in the Market Place, library, High Street car park, Warminster Road car park, Leighton Sports Centre, Westbury Station, Madbrook Farm lay-by and Leigh Park shops.
“The council has received many comments from the public expressing their delight at the repairs and changes to the maps,” added Ian.
