Chantry Television is closing its shop in Westbury town centre as they have put the retail side of the business into voluntary administration.
The retail department consisted at one time of seven retail outlets throughout the South West including a shop in the High Street in Westbury.
However, Chantry has a commercial department which will still be running from Trowbridge and specialises in the supply, installation and service of all aspects of video and audio for the hospitality sector, with some major accounts UK wide.
Neil Hawker, managing director of Chantry TV, said, “We have had loyal support and it’s a sad decision. Chantry Digital will still be here, but will be working in a different way. It has been a long term decision, but other parts of the business have been subsidising the retail side for a long time.
“Retail has changed in the last few years with many people buying appliances from the internet, with next day or free delivery, or the supermarket where there is plenty of free parking. It’s also a throw-away society with fewer people getting their appliances repaired.
“Chantry customers will soon be able to buy products online and receive the same service from us and we will still be doing rentals but sadly, we have had to close the store in Westbury town centre.
“Customers who pay monthly rental in the shops will be contacted soon with the chance of having monthly collections or a local agent. It is a sad day for me particularly as a Westbury person and someone who has been involved with Chantry TV for 33 years. I would like to say a really big thank you to all our staff and to our loyal customers in the Westbury area who have supported us.”
Colin Ludlow and Graham Welling from the Westbury branch of Chantry Television would like to thank all the customers and fellow traders for their support and for all the cards, gifts and good wishes they have received from local people.
