LOCAL people took advantage of free drop-in health sessions held at Crosspoint in June and July, which offered blood pressure, cholesterol and body mass index checks.
Health trainers for the Westbury area Deb Griffin, Beverley Salter and Steve White ran the ‘Know Your Numbers’ sessions which gave local people an opportunity to have their cholesterol and blood pressure taken. The health trainers also provided information and support to help people to live healthier, longer lives.
Deb Griffin said, “Just under 60 people had their cholesterol and blood pressure taken as well as having their body mass index (BMI) calculated. The sessions enabled us to explain why high blood pressure and cholesterol can impact on health and wellbeing.
“A high number of people were surprised by their readings and many committed to making lifestyle changes. By eating healthily, losing weight and increasing exercise, blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI can all be reduced.”
Other services within the community were promoted such as Westbury Shed and library sessions which run on a Thursday with Deb who helps people make changes to improve their health.
Deb continued, “Working in partnership with Crosspoint was a brilliant way to support the health and wellbeing of adults who live in the Westbury community.
Westbury Community Engagement Manager, Liam Cripps said, “These sessions at Crosspoint have been a huge success for the Health Trainer team, lots of engagement with plenty of new faces.
“If anyone is looking to make a change to their lifestyle from eating healthier foods to reducing or stopping smoking, then please contact the team who would be happy to support you. The health trainer team are able to offer support and guidance in order to help you lead a healthier life.
“Look out for the next advertised sessions and come along to a free session to check your BMI, blood pressure and cholesterol.”
