THE annual Edington Arts Advent Concert is taking place on Saturday 10th December starting at 7.30pm and this year the concert is welcoming the choir of Merton College from Oxford.
There will be music for Advent and for Christmas from across the ages, both traditional and contemporary, with contributions from the college’s organ scholar accompanying the choir and performing as a soloist.
Organisers say, “We are delighted to welcome back Benjamin Nicholas, director of music at Merton, and the college’s 34-strong mixed voice choir, one of the elite Oxbridge choral ensembles. Merton performed our first Advent concert back in 2015, (if you were there, you will remember how wonderful it was,) and were due back in 2019 only to be ruled out by the pandemic.
“While the students in that choir have graduated and left Oxford, those that have filled their places have gone on to confirm the Merton chapel choir under Benjamin Nicholas’s directorship as ‘one of the best collegiate choirs in the land’ (American Record Guide) and ‘one of the UK’s finest choral ensembles’ (The Gramophone).
” This is one of the most popular concerts in the calendar so don’t delay securing your tickets!”
As always in the run-up to Christmas, there will be mulled wine and mince pies in the interval, helping to get you in the mood.
