WESTBURY Youth Club members enjoyed a special Halloween celebration that saw young people bake tasty desserts, take part in apple bobbing and visit a pumpkin patch.
Beth Mullins, the youth club leader, said, “We were joined by Dave Hickory who came and played spooky games and Wiltshire councillor Carole King who kindly spent the day baking apple cake and pumpkin pie for our members to enjoy. Alongside this we held a best dress competition – our members impressed us so much with their fancy dress that there was not one but two winners of the competition, both of which wore huge inflatable costumes; one being a dinosaur and the other a skeleton. Needless to say, they both were rather hot by the end of the session!
“We had Cheryl, one of the volunteers, run apple bobbing that became very competitive and in the end the winner won by bobbing in a fraction of a second quicker than the other and we had pumpkin carving which had so many amazing entries and again we had two winners.
“Then on Saturday 28th October the club for the first time took a group of our members to Palette and Pasture for a free pumpkin picking event. We had slips and trips in the mud, lost shoes and pumpkins flying out of wheelbarrows! All of which was great fun and needless to say we all ended up very muddy.
“To round off the morning our trustee Keryne very kindly brought the members who attended an ice cream which they all enjoyed. This was something the club felt was important to do after the recent government research where it highlighted young people don’t have enough activities to do outside of school hours.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to our funders, trustees, staff, and volunteers whose dedication and support made this possible. We also have to say a huge thank you to Dave Hickory and cllr King for joining us for our Halloween session to make it that little bit more spooktacular.
“Our next event is a free activity day for our members to be held at Brookerswood on Saturday 18th November from 10am to 3pm. A massive shout out to Westbury Town Council for their grant to make this happen.”
