SIXTH Form student Izzy Harvey competed in the recent Wiltshire and Gloucester NSEA County Show jumping qualifier at West Wilts Equestrian Centre, and came second on her horse Sonic Game Boy.
Earlier in the day, Izzy had an unfortunate fence down in the 1m class, but she went on to jump a clear round in the 1.10m class, over the course of the day. With more than 260 riders taking part in the event, hoping to qualify for the area finals, Izzy and Sonic did Matravers proud to gain second place.
At a previous Interschools’ event, Year 7 student Emma Price, who has only recently joined the equestrian team, representing Matravers for the first time. Emma competed early on the Sunday morning and was well supported by her mum, sister and grandparents.
“It was a nice course but there was one jump at the far end of the school which I was a bit worried about and Prince had a refusal. I was nervous at the start but then as jumped round I worried less and less and really enjoyed it. I have been to West Wilts quite a few times but this time it was more crowded and more competitive. I am looking forward to the next one”
Also riding at the event was Chloe Little on Midnight and Izzie Harvey on Sonic Game Boy who both jumped in the 90 cm class. It was the biggest course Chloe’s horse had competed in and although they knocked two fences down, Chloe was quite rightly delighted with Midnight. Later Izzie jumped a lovely clear round but she had to work hard for it. Izzie explained “Sonic doesn’t really enjoy jumping in the indoor school and goes much better when he competes outside.” It was, however, a good clear round which put Izzie well up the order.
Matravers School says it is delighted to host its own equestrian team and looks forward to recruitment into the team from their new year 7s in September.
