Improvements to key areas of The Laverton have been approved as part of ongoing work to maintain and enhance the historic building.
Westbury Town Council agreed plans to refurbish the bar and the Williams Room at a Full Council meeting on Monday 5th January, approving a budget of £12,000 to carry out the work. The refurbishment was described as essential to the long-term viability of the bar and its role in supporting events in the Main Hall.
The refurbishment will include structural improvements to the bar area, such as re-plastering and repairs to a window, aimed at preventing issues such as leaks and deterioration.
Mayor Jane Russ, said, “We are now in a situation where we have brought the building up to a very good standard. However, this is not just something that’s ‘doing up the bar’, it is about ensuring that that particular end of the building stays secure from leakage, plaster leaks, that kind of thing.
“The takings from The Laverton generally have increased over the last 18 months or so, and one of the things that lets us down every time is the quality of the bar.
“We are supporting this building, and we are hopefully increasing our events takings.”
The Laverton is a grade II listed building and the home of Westbury Town Council. The council has been the sole trustee of the building since 2003. The building’s rooms are available to hire and are used for various events.
