PROVING that it’s not just cats who have nine lives, a dog from Westbury has miraculously survived an encounter with not one, but four trains!
Whilst being walked by her owners, Mr and Mrs Chapman, Poppy the dog was struck by a train after chasing a deer onto the tracks.
As Poppy lay on the tracks injured, her helpless owners could only look on in horror as a further three trains were forced to pass over the dog, unable to brake in time.
Once rescued, the Chapmans were amazed to find that Poppy was still alive. However, she was unable to move and was quickly taken to Garston Vets in Frome. Here it was revealed that the lucky dog had escaped her ordeal with very few injuries. Veterinary marketing manager, Sarah Holmes said, “To everyone’s amazement, Poppy was still alive but unable to move and she was brought straight to us where we managed to stabilise her.
“Although her face was extremely swollen, she had a large wound on her back, and was in considerable pain, we were amazed that the only broken bones were a couple of ribs.”
Poppy is now making good progress and is receiving regular check-ups at the veterinary surgery where she has won the hearts of the staff. Sarah added, “Poppy has been an absolute joy to care for and the whole team is already looking forward to seeing her for her next check-up and laser treatment.”
