Susan Stone and her sister Jane Burchell are holding a 12-hour sponsored sewathon on Saturday 14th May to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Susan’s daughter Hannah was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma over a year ago and spent many weeks in the Teenage Cancer Unit at Bristol Oncology Hospital.
Despite the predictions, Hannah recovered and is now planning to go back to University in Bangor in September.
The sisters said, “Readers of the White Horse News might remember Hannah doing a six-mile sponsored walk back in November to raise funds for a lady who needed a kidney transplant.”
The whole family are so grateful for the wonderful care provided by the TCT staff and the wonderful facilities they provide. Hannah still benefits from events that the Teenage Cancer Trust put on for patients in Bristol.
Susan has already made a number of quilts for in-patients at the unit. The Sewathon is another way of showing her gratitude for the wonderful work that the TCT do.
The sisters said, “In case you didn’t know, on average, seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.”
The Sewathon will run from 8.00am till 8.00pm at Providence Baptist Church Hall in Dilton Marsh. (Coming from Westbury into Dilton Marsh, you turn left after passing the Van Sales business on the left hand side).
You’ll be able to see Susan and Jane busy at work; they are hoping to make at least four quilt tops in 12 hours which will then be donated to the unit. From 10.00am till 4.00pm there will be drinks and home-made cakes available (for a donation) and a small display of quilts.
There will also be a wide range of handmade items for sale as well as TCT wristbands and badges. All proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. www.teenagecancertrust.org
